Greetings Tech Club Friends!
As another wonderful season of the Kitchener Tech Club comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on just how much we’ve shared, learned, and accomplished together this year.
Technology is always changing, but one thing that remains constant is the value of learning alongside others. Week after week, you brought your questions, experiences, curiosity, and enthusiasm, helping create a community where everyone feels welcome, supported, and encouraged to keep learning.
Whether you joined us regularly or dropped in when you could, thank you for being part of our club. Your participation, kindness, and willingness to help one another are what make the Kitchener Tech Club such a special place.
We still have a few exciting opportunities to gather before we break for the summer, including our June Speaker Meeting and our year-end Share & Learn celebration. These events are a wonderful chance to connect, reflect on the year, and enjoy the friendships we’ve built along the way.
As summer begins, I hope you’ll continue to explore, discover, and stay connected. Try a new app, learn a new skill, share a tech tip with a friend, or simply enjoy the convenience and opportunities that technology brings to everyday life.
Thank you for making this year such a success. It has been a pleasure learning and growing together, and I look forward to welcoming you back in the fall for another season of discovery, connection, and fun.
Until then, have a safe, relaxing, and sunshine-filled summer!
~ Susan

For the past year, the Tech-splorations column has attempted to feature a "hands-on" exercise to encourage curiosity and exploration. That can be challenging to do with only text instructions and a limited amount of word space! Our Share and Learn gatherings fulfill a similar goal much better.
Meanwhile, there are constant updates to apps and hardware happening while the topics of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity are becoming more prevalent.
With this issue, the Tech-splorations column is transitioning into K-Tech Tips - a place where I hope to provide you with a summary of helpful information from trusted online resources, including a link to the source material. I'll try to choose topics that apply across multiple platforms (such as iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows) but some may be more specific.
These tips will be saved to a new page on our website, where you'll be able to find all current and (over time) past items.
You'll find K-Tech Tips in our website's top navigation menu, by clicking on Resources and then selecting K-Tech Tips from the drop-down menu. That's also where the former Tech-splorations articles can now be found.
As you hopefully noticed in the "Club Events" section above, our club is pressing "pause" on Speaker Meetings, Share and Learn gatherings, and Virtual Drop-Ins during July and August. Our doors aren't fully shut, however, since tech problems don't seem to take vacations! Our club will still be offering two in-person Drop In events:
Wednesday, July 8
Wednesday, August 12
Because we meet in a City of Kitchener recreation facility, the city requires everyone attending to be registered with them (which is separate from being a club member on our mailing list). The good news is that we only have the one program offering (Drop-In) to register for, and being registered lets you attend on either or both of the above dates!
Registration is now available for Kitchener residents. If you live anywhere else, you can begin registering on June 16th (at 8:30 am).
There are three ways to register:
Kitchener’s online ActiveNet system (click here for the Summer Drop In), or
Visit the front desk of any Kitchener Community Centre, or
Call 519-741-2501
We’ve created an Active Net Instructions guide for this.
In order to register on ActiveNet, you must have a valid Kitchener Group Card. Kitchener Group Cards are available by phone or in person at any Kitchener Community Centre. They are good for unlimited visits for ongoing groups at any City of Kitchener Community Centre. The one-time purchase cost for anyone age 55+ is:
2025-2026 group cards (valid until August 31, 2026) cost $18.44 including HST
2026-2027 group cards (valid from September 1, 2025 until August 31, 2026) will be available for purchase or renewal starting August 1st and are expected to also cost $18.44 including HST.
To get a new group card or renew your existing card, please visit your local Kitchener community centre.
