The KITCHENER TECH CLUB (formerly the Bits and Bytes Club) is a community of older adults interested in technology. We offer guest presentations, group learning events, individual support sessions and more, all of which help our members to learn, grow and thrive in their use of technology.
We have a volunteer executive of 9 members who meet monthly to brainstorm, discuss, and plan events and experiences for club members. Our doors are always open; please contact us if you'd like to join our team!
Visit the links above to learn more about the sessions we offer, and discover how you can become a member and benefit from this amazing community.
We are sponsored by the City of Kitchener, however anyone who lives anywhere in the Waterloo Region is welcome to join. Membership is free.

Topic: Your Watch Knows Where you Are - but SHOULD IT? - Exploring Location-Tracing Technologies in Long-Term Care
Guest Speaker: Dr. Josephine McMurray
Description:
As location-tracking tools like smartwatches and GPS become part of daily life, similar technologies are now being used in long-term care to monitor the movement of residents—especially those living with dementia. This presentation explores Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS): what they are, how they work, and what happens when they’re introduced into care settings. Drawing on real stories from Canadian research, we’ll examine the promises and pitfalls of these systems, including questions about privacy, autonomy, safety, and data. Together, we’ll ask: Can this kind of technology support dignity in aging—or does it risk crossing the line?

Dr. Josephine McMurray is an Associate Professor in the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University where her work spans research and policy advocacy focused on technology's role in healthcare and helping Canadians to age more independently. Special Opportunity to visit the APPLE STORE in Waterloo!
In January, Lew organized a special learning opporunity for us at the Apple Store in Waterloo to explore the new Apple Password App.
Our instructor, Adam, was amazing! We all learned so much!
